Electric motorcycle is a kind of electric car, with battery to drive the motor. Electric power drive and control system is composed of drive motor, power supply and motor speed control device. The rest of the electric motorcycle is basically the same as the internal combustion engine.

The composition of electric motorcycle includes: electric drive and control system, driving force transmission and other mechanical systems, to complete the task of the working device. Electric drive and control system is the core of electric vehicle, is also different from the biggest difference with internal combustion engine drive car.

Electric motorcycle

A motorcycle powered by electricity. Divided into electric two-wheeled motorcycle and electric three-wheeled motorcycle.

A. Electric two-wheeled motorcycle: a two-wheeled motorcycle driven by electricity with a maximum design speed greater than 50km/h.

B. Electric three-wheeled motorcycle: the three-wheeled motorcycle driven by electric power, with the highest design speed of more than 50km/h and the vehicle maintenance mass of less than 400kg.

Electrically driven mopeds are divided into electric two – and three-wheeled mopeds.

A. Electric two-wheeled motorcycle: a two-wheeled motorcycle powered by electricity that meets one of the following conditions:

The maximum design speed is more than 20km/h and less than 50km/h;

The weight of the vehicle is more than 40kg and the maximum design speed is less than 50km/h.

B. Electric three-wheeled mopeds: three-wheeled mopeds driven by electric power, with the highest design speed not more than 50km/h and the total vehicle weight not more than 400kg.

The power supply

The power supply provides electrical energy for the drive motor of the electric motorcycle. The motor converts the electrical energy of the power supply into mechanical energy, which drives the wheels and working devices through the transmission device or directly. Nowadays, the most widely used power supply in electric vehicles is lead-acid battery. However, with the development of electric vehicle technology, lead-acid battery is gradually replaced by other batteries due to its low specific energy, slow charging speed and short service life. The application of new power sources is being developed, which opens up broad prospects for the development of electric vehicles.

Drive motor

The role of the drive motor is to convert the electrical energy of the power supply into mechanical energy, through the transmission device or directly drive the wheels and working devices. Dc series motors are widely used in today’s electric vehicles, which have “soft” mechanical characteristics and are very consistent with the driving characteristics of cars. However, dc motor because of commutation spark, small specific power, low efficiency, maintenance workload, with the development of motor technology and motor control technology, is bound to gradually be replaced by DC brushless motor (BCDM), switched reluctance motor (SRM) and AC asynchronous motor.

Motor speed control device

Motor speed control device is set for the electric car speed and direction change, its role is to control the voltage or current of the motor, complete the motor drive torque and rotation direction control.

In previous electric vehicles, dc motor speed regulation is achieved by series resistance or changing the number of turns of the motor’s magnetic field coil. Because its speed is graded, and will produce additional energy consumption or the use of motor structure is complex, has rarely used today. Nowadays, the SCR chopper speed regulation is widely used in electric vehicles, which realizes stepless speed regulation by changing the terminal voltage of the motor evenly and controlling the current of the motor. In the continuous development of electronic power technology, it is gradually replaced by other power transistor (into GTO, MOSFET, BTR and IGBT, etc.) chopper speed regulation device. From the perspective of technological development, with the application of new driving motor, the speed control of electric vehicle is transformed into the application of DC inverter technology, which will become an inevitable trend.

In the control of drive motor’s spin transformation, dc motor relies on contactor to change the current direction of armature or magnetic field to achieve the motor’s spin transformation, which makes the Circuit complex and reliability reduced. When the ac asynchronous motor is used, the change of the motor’s steering only needs to change the phase sequence of the three phase current of the magnetic field, which can simplify the control circuit. In addition, the use of AC motor and its frequency conversion speed control technology makes the braking energy recovery control of electric vehicles more convenient, more simple control circuit.
